Long and Scenic Trail from the Valley of Nakra

Discover a long and scenic trail starting from the picturesque valley of Nakra, located 50 km from Mestia. This route offers breathtaking views of the entire Nakra valley, the summits of Shtavler, Kvarmash, the Svaneti Range, and, in good weather, the majestic Mount Elbrus, the tallest mountain in the Caucasus and Europe, standing at 5642 meters.

The trail begins with a ride uphill, passing the furthest houses of Nakra, and continues through lush pastures and serene forests. The final ascent takes you up the slopes of Mt. Tsalgmyl, reaching the stunning alpine pastures at 2300 meters. This journey promises incredible landscapes and an unforgettable experience in the heart of the Caucasus.

The excitement of riding in Svaneti is, in just one word, authentic. You ride the same trails that locals use when tending cattle or going hunting. The horses you ride are the same ones that work in households, and even the gear is exactly what the owners use for their daily tasks. How much closer to the real experience can you get?

You don’t need to be an experienced rider to enjoy these tours. It's actually a perfect opportunity to try horseback riding! The mountain trails are not suitable for galloping, so the tours are mostly at a walking pace. In some places, you may need to dismount and lead the horse, especially on slippery downhill sections, but local horses are adept at choosing the best route.
